Finally, something, for what the majority call heathens and non-believers and atheists, and who I call rationalists, a campaign in London to advertise that god probably doesn’t exist, something for the other side. The iconic, red London buses will now carry slogans countering the slew of ads put up by the faithful, an idea forwarded by the British Humanist Association (BHA) and supported by Prof Richard Dawkins of Oxford University. As of October 23rd, the donations for this campaign had crossed £83,000, which in itself was a new record, considering that it was open for donations from the 21st.
The slogan on the bus in the image above reads: “There’s probably no god. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life”. Couldn’t have put it better, and it’s passed all the filters put in place by the British regulatory authorities for advertisements. The best part about this message is it’s neutrality, and the “take it easy” attitude it exudes, and this is what won me over. Also, by using the word ‘probably’, it shows the true rational side of sceptics and doesn’t exude the certitude that the religious bigots usually do when they preach about a possible almighty being. It’s quite obvious that the “faithful” will find fault and object even to this and try to make it sound that their religious rights have been trampled upon and they’ve been offended and … and about how it brings back memories of how they were molested by their priest when they were young and that Hitler will come back and what not! To which I say, take a cold beer, stretch out on your couch and watch an episode of Friends or Seinfeld or Ali Baba and the 40 thieves, and if you still don’t cool down, then you can write a strongly worded mail to the Times of India ot The Times or the New York Times or whatever paper you subscribe to, instead of going and blowing stuff up.
